Specialists in providing

Quantity Surveying

The commercial success of a construction project depends upon a number of factors, but probably the most important is to have a Quantity Surveyor whose experience of commercial and contractual arrangements is such that they instinctively know how to achieve that success. From initial procurement and budget advice through to agreement of the Final Account, DCS provides a dynamic, "hands-on" and highly professional service.
We provide early cost advice and budget estimated and carefully select the most appropriate procurement route for each project. We draft and prepare contract documentation, including schedules of work or bills of quantities where required. Once the project is underway we draw on our extensive site experience in the preparation of interim valuations, variation accounts and final accounts. Clients receive regular and accurate reporting of projected final costs and likely cash flow, along with advice on any significant cost issues which may arise

Business Support

Key elements to a firm's ability to deliver an effective service are the management systems it uses and its staff - never more so than in the construction industry because most projects are unique. It is essential that your processes and records give you the information and control that you need at every level - whether the records are to meet formal accreditation/assessment criteria , or to ensure that the business operates in an informed and co-ordinated environment.
DCS employs consultants with wide-spread experience. Having witnessed business success and failures by working with Insolvency Practitioners, we are able to share the benefits of that experience. Even when you think you're on top of things, industry advancements come along. At DCS we are able to provide bespoke individual or group training to help keep up with change, or to drive its implementation. Allowing DCS to audit, report, design and implement systems with your team, will bring benefits of efficiency and improved commercial and industry awareness.

Dispute Support

It is not always possible for the parties to reach agreement. The contract usually makes provision for this and should set out the means by which differences are to be resolved. If not, the law imposes other remedies. There are now several alternatives for resolving disputes and any number may be available depending upon the contract. Parties should not automatically assume that legal arguments are only for the courts. There are several available processes. By effectively employing alternative routes the needs for formal legal proceedings can be negated, thus saving time and money.
DCS has wide experience in formal Dispute Resolution procedures such as Arbitration and Adjudication, and in the less formal but more commercial approaches of negotiation, mediation and conciliation. We can represent your interests in either pursuing or defending dispute matters and, should full legal proceedings be required, we are able to act as Expert Witness

Contractor Support

Contracting in the construction industry is a difficult and risky business where the financial stakes are often high. The risks still exist despite recent construction industry moves towards partnering and open book policies. Standard forms of contract are becoming more complex; project design risk is transferred to the contractor, changes vary the work and sub-contractors try to take advantage. DCS has surveyors from many different backgrounds, with wide experience from controlling large projects to small maintenance contracts.
We believe that with this wealth of experience, much of it in contracting, we can offer support to contractors that is tailored to suit your needs. We can provide general quantity surveying services to contractors as and when needed. We can supplement an existing quantity surveying team or provide surveyors for a particular project. Whatever the quantity surveying requirement, DCS has the people who can help.

Corporate Recovery

It doesn't always work out to plan. Construction can present high risks, and regimes adopted in the industry can defer receipt of payment. Cash flow is paramount, but businesses can be overtaken by events, and costs can quickly exceed revenue.
The skills that Quantity Surveyors process as commercial managers and financial experts are applies in full when the demands of corporate recovery are at hand. At DCS we use our commercial acumen in the swift preparation of valuations, applications and claims to assess the book debt. We also predict the likelihood of success and suggest the most favoured solutions.
This allows the Practitioner to properly allocate the necessary measured degree of effort, and to quickly select viable projects while confidently assessing the best available outcome in negotiation, sale or novation. Our regular involvement in dispute resolution equips us with awareness of the current legal position, and allows us to advise on and implement the most appropriate action for difficult debt recovery.

Construction is a complex and expensive business and, whether it's your first project or you have years of experience, projects always require good management and most importantly, finance. DCS have extensive experience in procurement and have worked with some of the countries largest Companies. DCS have also advised some of the country's smallest, turning the seed of an idea into reality and assisting with project from inception to completion. DCS can provide a complete cost control and budgeting service or provide surveyors to supplement your existing team.
We can fully manage your project every step of the way, including grant applications where appropriate. Our role doesn't stop there. We also carry out services on behalf of the finance industry, monitoring projects and carrying out financial reviews for some of the leading names in banking and for large multinational accountancy practices
